Valencia Formula 1 circuit settlement faces eviction rumors
Rumors of an imminent eviction have caused alarm among approximately 800 residents living in a settlement at the former Formula 1 circuit in Valencia, Spain. The uncertainty stems from the ongoing processing of the PAI del Grao urban development plan.
According to reports from the camp, a specific date for the eviction—September 10—was circulated following a supposed leak from a social sector worker. In response, the platform Valencia és Refugi organized a demonstration at the site, which is considered the largest shantytown in Valencia, to deter potential intervention.
While social collectives expressed distrust following a meeting with the Government Subdelegation, municipal representatives did not attend the meeting, claiming it was called on a false premise and that no imminent eviction has been requested. Ana Isabel Martínez, president of Valencia és Refugi, stated that while an eventual eviction may occur, the priority should be ensuring legal frameworks are followed and basic needs are met for vulnerable residents.
