Valencia former F1 circuit settlement housing dispute
Overview
Approximately 800 residents living in a settlement of roughly 400 makeshift dwellings at the former Formula 1 circuit in Valencia are facing uncertainty regarding their housing. Local advocacy groups, such as the NGO València és Refugi, have called for judicial processes to protect residents from what they fear could be illegal administrative removals.
While the Valencia City Council indicated that urban development works for the PAI del Grau are scheduled for the first half of 2027, rumors of an imminent eviction on September 10 caused significant alarm. In response to these rumors, social collectives organized a demonstration at the site to deter potential intervention.
Spokesperson Ana Isabel Martínez has emphasized that any displacement must follow legal frameworks and ensure that the basic needs of vulnerable residents are met. The Government Delegation has stated it will not participate in any eviction that lacks a firm judicial order.
