Valencia investigation probes fatal hot tub accident involving London couple

Investigators are examining a suspected hot tub accident that resulted in the deaths of Thomasina and Patrick Tobin, a London-based couple, during a holiday near Valencia, Spain. The couple was discovered by their two teenage children in a luxury villa in the Cap Blanc area on August 25.

Postmortem examinations indicated that both individuals suffered fatal heart stoppages. While Spanish police have ruled out foul play and drowning as the direct cause of death, authorities are investigating whether a malfunction in the hot tub’s water circulation system caused suction entrapment. This phenomenon occurs when a spa drain’s suction force traps a person’s body, limb, or clothing, potentially leading to cardiac events.

The investigation remains active as officials work to determine the exact sequence of events and whether the suction system contributed to the fatal cardiac arrests.
