Spanish port authorities approve major investments and digital upgrades across multiple ports

The Port Authority of Valencia approved an updated Environmental and Energy Policy aligned with its 2035 Strategic Plan and Net‑Zero goals. It also authorized a €15.6 million electrical substation, co‑financed by the European Commission’s Connecting Europe Facility, that will double the port’s power capacity and support electrification of its terminals. In parallel, the authority selected a proposal to turn the former Victory Challenge base into a technology and innovation centre, a project valued at around €3 million with a 30‑year concession.

The Port Authority of Algeciras adopted a €677 million public investment programme through 2030, complemented by €711 million of private funding. The plan targets terminal expansion, electrification, road and rail connectivity upgrades and the construction of new infrastructure to handle over six million TEUs annually.

Other Spanish ports announced significant upgrades: Castellón’s authority awarded a €307,444 contract to modernise safety installations at the Centenari quay; it also supplied more than 2,000 cubic metres of sand to Almassora beach for erosion mitigation. Vigo’s authority launched a digital‑twin pilot at the O Berbés terminal to simulate port operations in real time, aiming to optimise logistics and decision‑making. Vilagarcía’s authority granted new fuel‑supply concessions to Repsol Soluciones Energéticas, Moevey, and Galp Energía España, expanding bunker services. Santander’s authority unveiled a €245 million investment plan for 2026‑2030 covering new berths, dredging, and digitalisation.

Collectively, these initiatives reflect a nationwide push to modernise port infrastructure, improve environmental performance, and adopt advanced digital technologies.
