Police have discovered the skeletal remains of an 18-month-old baby, Nizan, inside a family home in Santa Bàrbara, Tarragona. The discovery follows a disappearance report filed by the child's paternal grandfather, who claimed the mother had confessed via telephone to killing and burying the infant in a cardboard box within the residence.

Two suspects, identified as 35-year-old Jesús A. R. and 29-year-old Cristina S. C., were arrested by the National Police at the Valencia North Station on Wednesday morning. The arrest was carried out following a judicial warrant issued by a court in Amposta on suspicion of homicide. The parents, originally from Castellón, had been living in Santa Bàrbara since 2019.

The investigation into the residence also revealed severe animal neglect. Authorities rescued 28 dogs in poor health and malnourished conditions, alongside finding several deceased animals and carcasses within the property. The home has been sealed as Mossos d'Esquadra and scientific police continue their forensic investigation under judicial secrecy.
