Infant homicide investigation in Tarragona

Overview

Authorities in Tarragona have launched a homicide investigation following the discovery of the bone remains of an 18-month-old child, Nizan, inside a residence in Santa Bárbara. The discovery was prompted by a disappearance report filed by the child’s paternal grandfather, who stated his daughter-in-law had confessed to killing and burying the infant in a cardboard box within the home.

National Police arrested the child’s parents, identified as 35-year-old Jesús A. R. and 29-year-old Cristina S. C., at the Valencia North Station under a judicial warrant from a court in Amposta. The parents, originally from Castellón, had been residing in Santa Bárbara since 2019.

During the search of the property, investigators also uncovered a severe animal welfare crisis, finding 28 malnourished dogs and several dead animals. The residence has been sealed for forensic evidence collection by Mossos d'Esquadra and scientific police as the investigation continues under judicial secrecy.
