Valencia residents fear illegal evictions at former F1 circuit

Residents and solidarity platforms are expressing concern over potential evictions at the former Formula 1 circuit site in Valencia. Approximately 800 people are estimated to be living in the settlement, which spans 24 hectares and includes roughly 400 makeshift dwellings.

Local advocacy groups, including the NGO València és Refugi, are calling for a judicial process to ensure the rights of residents are protected. They fear the city council may attempt to treat the removal as a simple administrative cleaning act rather than a formal eviction. Ana Isabel Martínez, spokesperson for the solidarity platform, emphasized that any displacement must follow legal procedures within a democratic state.

Pilar Bernabé, representing the Government Delegation in the Valencian Country, stated that the delegation will not participate in any eviction that lacks a firm judicial order, noting that such an action could be illegal. While the Valencia City Council has stated it has no plans for an imminent eviction, its published urban development plans for the PAI del Grau indicate that works are scheduled to begin in the first half of 2027.
