Valencia University library treasures head to Mexico for International Book Fair

The Biblioteca Històrica of the Universitat de València is sending a selection of its most valuable early printed works and manuscripts to Mexico. The exhibit includes five manuscripts and ten printed items dating from the 15th and 16th centuries, such as the Duc de Calàbria codices, the Cosmographiae of Ptolemy, works of Virgil, the first balneotherapy treatise by Petrus de Ebulo, the medieval cooking manuscript Llibre de Sent Soví, the natural‑history Còdex Pomar, and rare early Spanish prints like Trobes en lahors de la Verge Maria and Tirant lo Blanc.

The collection will be part of the VIII International University Book Fair (FILUNI), held in Mexico from 25 to 30 August, with the exhibition open from 24 August to 3 October at the Sala Santos Balmori of the Casa Universitaria del Libro (UNAM). The University of Valencia serves as the honoured guest institution, and the fair gathers universities, academic publishers, researchers and book‑industry professionals from across Ibero‑America, showcasing Spanish‑language scholarly output.
