Valencian Community experiences intense heat and high humidity

The Valencian Community is experiencing intense heat, with maximum temperatures reaching approximately 37 degrees Celsius in several municipalities. According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), Elche recorded the highest temperature at 37.8 degrees, followed by Xàtiva at 37.3 degrees. Other areas such as Carcaixent, Orihuela, and Bicorp also saw temperatures around 37 degrees.

Coastal areas have experienced slightly more moderate daytime temperatures due to maritime influence, with Valencia capital reaching 32.5 degrees and Alicante at 34.8 degrees. However, nighttime conditions have become increasingly difficult. High humidity levels, reaching 87 percent, have led to high minimum temperatures in coastal towns like Benidorm and Alicante, where temperatures remained above 27 degrees.

Meteorologists note that the combination of high heat and humidity prevents natural body cooling through sweat evaporation, creating a high heat index. Experts suggest that these intense nighttime conditions, often described as ‘infernal nights,’ are becoming more frequent due to climate change.
