Valencian education sector faces tension over inspection decrees and staffing shortages

The start of the school year in the Valencian Community is facing significant tension due to recent legislative changes and administrative issues. Unions, families, and opposition parties have accused the regional government of transforming the educational inspection body into an ‘ideological police’ following a decree negotiated between the PP and Vox. Critics argue that new, potentially anonymous channels for families to report teachers for failing to maintain ‘neutrality’ are intended to encourage self-censorship among educators.

Simultaneously, the CGT union has reported that 23% of educational support staff (PAE) remain without contracts just one week before the academic year begins. The union attributes this to bureaucratic delays and administrative errors in merit calculations and transfer competitions. This situation primarily affects special education teachers, social integration technicians, and early childhood education specialists, leaving many schools without defined support teams for the start of the term.
