Valencian festivals adjust calendars as Alcoi closes Jubilee year and Fogueres delay next season’s program

The Alcoi City Council approved that April 23, 2027 will be a regular working day, rejecting the Sant Jordi Association’s request to declare it a holiday to mark the closure of the Vatican‑granted Jubilee year celebrating the town’s 750‑year patronage. Association president Paco García argued the holiday would have provided a fitting end to the special year, but the council cited concerns from local merchants and service providers.

Separately, the Federació de Fogueres de Sant Joan announced it will postpone the official presentation of the 2026‑2027 festival calendar until 1 September. Federation president David Olivares cited the need to hold a new assembly, incorporate the upcoming Congress of Festivities and add new “mascletàs” and other events. Most acts are already set, but details on sponsorship and scheduling will be finalised before the September assembly.

Both decisions reflect ongoing adjustments to traditional event scheduling in the Valencian Community.
