Valencian Government Removes Over 3,800 Wild Boars in 2026

The Generalitat of the Valencian Community reported that more than 3,800 wild boars have been removed so far in 2026 as part of its wildlife‑control plan. Around 1,300 animals were captured by the public environmental agency VAERSA using trap systems, while roughly 2,000 were taken by hunters cooperating with the administration.

The operation employs 39 staff members, 35 vehicles, a veterinary laboratory, and extensive monitoring equipment, including 132 video‑surveillance cameras, 238 photo‑traps, a drone with a thermal camera, 169 cage‑traps and seven capture pits. Main activity zones are Xàbia‑Dénia, La Valldigna, La Plana and La Safor. Objectives are to curb boar overpopulation, reduce crop damage and road‑traffic accidents, and prevent the spread of African swine fever. Landowners receive a €40 incentive for each boar removed, and the regional agriculture department allocated over €37 million in agricultural insurance subsidies covering wildlife‑related losses.
