Valencian educators protest for public school improvements
Thousands of educators, families, and civic entities have taken to the streets in Valencia, Alicante, and Castellón de la Plana to protest against the current state of public education in the Valencian Community. Organized by the Plataforma per l'Ensenyament Públic and major unions such as STEPV, CCOO, and UGT, the demonstrations mark a resurgence of mobilization following an indefinite strike that concluded in June.
Protesters are demanding improvements in staffing, lower student-to-teacher ratios, better infrastructure, and adequate climate control in schools. There are also significant concerns regarding the protection of the Valencian language in the curriculum and recent changes to educational inspection regulations. Demonstrators have called for the resignation of the Minister of Education, Carmen Ortí, citing a lack of progress in negotiations and stagnant dialogue with the Generalitat.
Union representatives have warned that if the administration does not resume meaningful negotiations to address these structural issues, they may reactivate the indefinite strike. The movement emphasizes that the struggle for a dignified and well-resourced public school system continues into the new academic year.
