Valencian region advances DANA flood recovery with Alfafar water upgrades and 80,000 € victim aid
The municipality of Alfafar has completed about 80% of the water‑service works funded under the national DANA recovery plan. Of the roughly €440,000 allocated for water‑supply upgrades, about €355,000 has already been spent on replacing pipelines, hydraulic elements and pumping systems. The works are part of a broader €7 million investment in water supply, sanitation and drainage, with an additional €2.5 million slated for new interventions over the next ten months.
The Valencian regional government has paid €7.11 million of the €17.28 million earmarked for DANA victim assistance. The administration provides €80,000 to the families of 216 victims out of the 231 deaths recorded in the October 2024 flood. These payments fulfill a promise made by President Juanfran Pérez Llorca to match the higher compensation granted to victims of the Adamuz train crash, and aim to support the relatives of the deceased.
