Valencia's Arturo Michelena Airport introduces new passenger fee
Starting 13 July 2026, passengers departing from the Arturo Michelena International Airport in Valencia must pay a new Sefop (Specialized Service for Operational Facilitation of the Passenger) charge. The fee is €5 for domestic flights and €25 for international flights, payable in bolívares at the official exchange rate. It applies to tickets issued before 23 July 2026; later tickets include the charge automatically. Children under two years old and transit passengers are exempt.
The charge was enacted through administrative provision P‑2026/002 and will remain in force for one year. The airport has seen a surge in traffic after the 24 June earthquakes forced the closure of Maiquetía’s main airport, with passenger numbers rising about 120 % and an average of 3,623 travelers per day. Governor Rafael Lacava announced the opening of two additional halls to handle up to 370 passengers amid the heightened flow. The Carabobo Tourism Chamber, led by Argenis Sánchez, reported that 60 % of flights are now international, generating roughly €54,000 in daily fees.
