Valeriy Zaluzhnyi says Ukraine's forces exhausted, NATO doctrines outdated

Former Ukrainian army chief and current ambassador to the United Kingdom, Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, told Ukrainian diplomats that Ukraine has used almost every type of NATO weapon against Russia and that its military resources are now exhausted. He warned that NATO still relies on World‑War‑II‑era doctrines, making immediate membership impossible, and called for a radical transformation of the alliance to 21st‑century technologies.

Zaluzhnyi’s remarks, reported by Interfax‑Ukraine and Reuters, were followed by a statement from Ukraine’s foreign ministry saying his comments were taken out of context and that Kyiv’s strategic goal of full NATO membership remains unchanged. He also highlighted the urgent need for advanced defensive systems such as missile defence and space capabilities.
