Valheim exits Early Access with 1.0 update and new biomes
After more than five years in Early Access, the Viking-inspired survival game Valheim has officially released version 1.0. Developed by Iron Gate and published by Coffee Stain Publishing, the full launch marks a major milestone for the title, which has sold over 17 million copies.
The 1.0 update introduces the Deep North, a massive new frozen biome featuring icy landscapes, tundra, and new hostile creatures. The update also brings significant content expansions, including over 40 new weapons, 4 new armor sets, new tools, 80+ building pieces, and various new crafting stations. Additionally, the game now features achievements and improved technical options like adjustable render distance.
Alongside the full release, Valheim is expanding its platform availability to PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, supporting cross-play across all platforms. While cross-play is available, cross-save functionality is currently limited to the Xbox ecosystem. The transition out of Early Access also includes a price increase for new players.
