Valladolid theatre cancellation sparks censorship accusations

Spain's Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo, has accused the PP and Vox parties of censorship following the cancellation of a play about Federico García Lorca in Valladolid. The production, titled ‘Federico. No hay olvido, ni sueño: carne viva’ by the company Proyecto 43-2, was scheduled to perform on October 24 at the Miguel Delibes Cultural Center (CCMD).

The CCMD, which is managed by the Junta de Castilla y León, cited “logistical reasons” for the cancellation without providing further specifics. Minister Redondo criticized the decision on social media, suggesting the cancellation was politically motivated due to the upcoming electoral period.

The cultural center is part of a complex managed by the regional Ministry of Culture, currently led by Alberto Díaz Pico of the Vox party.
