Valle del Cauca establishes 2,580 hectares of new protected areas
The Regional Autonomous Corporation of Valle del Cauca (CVC) has declared two new protected areas totaling 2,580.70 hectares to preserve water, biodiversity, and biocultural heritage. This initiative is part of the ‘Patria Milagro’ government's ‘Agenda ABC’ (Water, Biodiversity, and Communities).
The first area, the Soil Conservation District of the Cauca River Associated Wetlands Complex, covers 1,882.29 hectares across the municipalities of Bugalagrande, Andalucía, and Tuluá, protecting 20 wetlands.
The second area is the Integrated Regional Management District (DRMI) CCCORYSAN–Venado, located in the collective territory of the Black Communities Council of Córdoba and San Cipriano in Buenaventura. Spanning 698.41 hectares, this zone features dense forests, streams, and diverse wildlife, including birds, mammals, amphibians, and felines. The region also supports ecotourism and relies on traditional community knowledge for ecosystem management.
