Valle del Cauca receives 4,386 million pesos for health sector recovery

The Colombian government has announced 4,386 million pesos to strengthen the health sector in Valle del Cauca following a recent earthquake. A primary portion of these funds is designated for the oncology functional unit at the Hospital Universitario del Valle ‘Evaristo García’ (HUV) under Resolution 1080 of 2026. The resources aim to support strategic hospital services and address infrastructure damage caused by the seismic event.

In terms of public health monitoring, the Valle del Cauca Health Secretariat has reported that there has been no increase in diseases linked to the earthquake. Health Secretary María Cristina Lesmes Duque stated there is currently no evidence of an epidemiological emergency.

Health authorities recommend that individuals in areas with debris or structural damage wear masks to prevent respiratory irritation from dust and particles. Specific precautions have been advised for people with asthma or lung diseases, alongside general hygiene recommendations such as frequent handwashing after handling rubble.
