Valledupar activates first electronic traffic enforcement cameras

Valledupar has officially activated its first three electronic traffic violation detection cameras. According to the Municipal Transit Secretariat, the system is entering an initial two-week adaptation period. During this phase, the cameras will issue pedagogical citations rather than immediate financial penalties. Drivers caught committing infractions will be required to attend an educational course regarding traffic regulations and coexistence.

Failure to complete the required course within the established timeframe may result in economic sanctions. The current monitoring points are located at Calle 16 with Carrera 12, Carrera 9 with Calle 17, and the Avenida Fundación traffic light at Los Manguitos. Once the pedagogical period concludes, the system will begin issuing fines for violations such as failing to stop at red lights, yellow lights, or stop signs, with penalties amounting to $1,266,101.

The municipal administration plans to expand the system to a total of five authorized points, including the Mercado Público traffic light and the entrance to the La Nevada neighborhood.
