Vallès region considered for new high-speed rail station
A new study commissioned by the Generalitat de Catalunya regarding the ‘Eix Transversal Ferroviari’ proposes the construction of a new intermodal passenger station in the Vallès region. This project aims to create a new railway branch between Martorell and Mollet, which would allow high-speed trains traveling between Madrid and Barcelona to reach the Sagrera station via a different route.
While the specific municipality has not been finalized, Rubí and Sant Cugat are identified as the most feasible locations. The station is designed to facilitate direct transfers between Renfe’s Rodalies R8 line and the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) services. Potential sites within these areas include Volpelleres and Hospital General.
To support this connectivity, the Generalitat has allocated 36 million euros to begin preliminary studies for the construction of interchanges at Volpelleres and Hospital General, with the goal of completing these infrastructures within three years.
