Valter Lavitola arrested for masterminding attack on journalist Sigfrido Ranucci

Valter Lavitola, an entrepreneur and former editor, has been arrested and placed in custody by order of a Rome judge. He is accused of being the mastermind behind the bomb attack targeting journalist Sigfrido Ranucci, which occurred on October 16, 2025, in Pomezia, near Rome.

Prosecutors allege that Lavitola conceived the criminal plan and commissioned Gomes Clesio Tavares to find individuals capable of obtaining explosives and executing the attack. Investigators claim Lavitola and Tavares personally conducted a reconnaissance of the site on September 15, 2025. Tavares, a Cameroonian citizen currently a fugitive in Africa, is accused of acting as an operational link, recruiting and instructing the material executors from the Campania region.

The charges against Lavitola include the use of the mafia method. This investigation follows the arrest of four individuals in late June, who are considered the material executors of the explosion. Evidence for the new charges includes cross-referenced telephone and electronic data, vehicle tracking, and forensic analysis of mobile phones used during the preparatory phases.
