Valter Lavitola remains in custody in Ranucci bombing probe

The investigation into the October 2025 bombing of journalist Sigfrido Ranucci’s home in Pomezia has entered a critical phase. Valter Lavitola, who has confessed to being the mastermind behind the attack, remains in custody at Rome’s Rebibbia prison after the Tribunale del Riesame rejected his defense’s request for release or house arrest. The court also upheld the aggravating factor of the “mafia method” in the charges.

Investigators are currently focusing on suspicious gaps in digital communications. Analysis of Lavitola’s seized electronic devices revealed weeks of missing chat history between him and Ranucci, occurring both before and after the explosion. Carabinieri investigators are working to recover these deleted messages to reconstruct the relationship between the two men and identify potential accomplices.

Additionally, Natalia Potenza, Lavitola’s former long-term partner, has appeared before the Rome Prosecutor’s Office as a person informed of the facts. Potenza, who manages the Cefalù bistro, is expected to provide testimony regarding the personal and professional ties between Lavitola and Ranucci, as well as the businessman’s various corporate affairs.
