Italian probe seizes manuscripts in Lavitola-linked Ranucci bomb case

A bomb exploded under the home of Rai 3 journalist Sigfrido Ranucci in Pomezia, injuring his family and prompting a criminal investigation. Prosecutors have identified Valter Lavitola, a former editor and entrepreneur, as the alleged mastermind; Lavitola has denied any role.

A police raid on Lavitola’s residence resulted in the seizure of seven handwritten pages, three mobile phones and two pen‑drives. Investigators hope the devices will reveal communications with Gomes Clesio Tavares and the Avellino gang that carried out the dynamite blast.

Lavitola repeatedly emphasizes his close personal friendship with Ranucci, stating that they meet daily and that he once commissioned a political survey involving the journalist. Public figures such as Tommaso Cerno, Rai director Paolo Corsini and deputy Giovanni Donzelli have called for a complete, uncensored reconstruction of the events, while denying any direct threat to Ranucci.

The inquiry remains ongoing, with no new hearing scheduled, as authorities continue to examine the seized material to clarify the motive and any possible political connections.
