Valve developer mentions HLX codename at GameSoundCon

Valve music designer Mike Morasky has provided the first direct reference to the codename HLX during a panel at GameSoundCon 2026. While discussing audio technology and the Source 2 engine, Morasky noted that both the multiplayer shooter Deadlock and HLX utilize their own specific versions of HDR for audio playback.

Following the mention, industry insiders have speculated that HLX refers to a new Half-Life project. Reports from insider Tyler McVicker suggest the game is more than a technical demo and was playable from start to finish by testers last summer. According to these claims, the project is currently in a polishing phase and is intended for traditional PC and consoles rather than being a VR-exclusive title.

Valve has not officially confirmed the existence of a new Half-Life game or the nature of project HLX.
