Valve project HLX development speculation

Overview

During a technical panel at GameSoundCon, Valve composer Mike Morasky provided the first public mention of the codename ‘HLX’ while discussing audio engine implementations. Morasky noted that ‘HLX has its own version’ of High Dynamic Range (HDR) audio, similar to the game Deadlock.

Following this slip-up, industry speculation has increased regarding whether HLX refers to a new Half-Life installment. Some reports suggest the project is more than a technical demo and was playable from start to finish by testers last summer. These claims indicate the project is currently in a polishing phase and is intended for traditional PC and consoles rather than being a VR-exclusive title. Valve has not officially confirmed the nature of the project.
