Van Gogh painting expected to fetch $180 million at Sotheby's auction
Sotheby's is set to auction the Vincent van Gogh painting ‘Chataigniers En Fleurs’ (Flowering Chestnut Trees) in New York, with an estimated price of $180 million. Including the buyer's premium, the final price could reach $207 million, potentially setting a new auction record for the artist. This work is one of only eight landscape paintings from Van Gogh's Auvers period that remain in private hands.
The painting is part of the prestigious Blaquier-Arrieta Collection. Other notable works in the auction include Paul Cézanne's ‘Arlequin’, estimated at approximately $120 million, and Renoir's ‘En Canot’. Neither the Van Gogh nor the Cézanne piece has been publicly exhibited for over 50 years.
