Rector Hamdullah Şevli cleared by DNA tests in Rojin Kabaiş case

New developments have emerged in the investigation into the death of Rojin Kabaiş, a 21-year-old student at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University who was found dead near Lake Van in October 2024. Following an autopsy that detected DNA profiles from two different men on her body, authorities have been conducting extensive genetic testing.

Recent forensic results show that DNA samples taken from Professor Hamdullah Şevli, the Rector of Van Yüzüncü Yıl University, and his nephew, Enes Şevli, do not match the DNA profiles found on Kabaiş. The samples were collected following requests from the victim's family to investigate potential connections to the university administration.

The investigation, led by the Van Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, has involved testing approximately 600 individuals to date, including security personnel from universities and dormitories. While the results for the Rector and his nephew have cleared them of a direct DNA match, the search for the identities of the two men whose DNA was found on the victim continues.
