Rojin Kabaiş death investigation in Turkey

The investigation into the death of Rojin Kabaiş, a student at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University, has faced scrutiny regarding transparency and forensic thoroughness. Initially, the student’s father, Nizamettin Kabaiş, criticized the effectiveness of the inquiry, calling for accelerated forensic work on the victim’s mobile phone and the release of campus security footage. He further alleged that the university rector interfered with the autopsy and concealed evidence.

As the investigation progressed, authorities collected DNA samples from the university rector, Prof. Dr. Hamdullah Şevli, and his nephew, Enes Şevli. These samples were being compared against two distinct male DNA profiles previously identified on the victim’s body.

Recent forensic results from the Van Chief Public Prosecutor's Office have cleared Professor Hamdullah Şevli and Enes Şevli, as their DNA samples do not match the profiles found on Kabaiş. The investigation has expanded significantly, with authorities having tested approximately 600 individuals to date, including security personnel from universities and dormitories. Despite these findings, the search continues to identify the two men whose DNA profiles were recovered from the victim.
