Vanathi Srinivasan condemns political use of schools and opposes Mekedatu dam project

Vanathi Srinivasan, the national women’s wing head of the BJP, criticised the Tamil Nadu government after a video showed Chief Minister J. Vijay addressing students in a government school in Kanchipuram district. She called the practice of using schools for political campaigning “abhorrent” and urged party officials to keep education institutions free from party propaganda.

She also warned against the construction of the Mekedatu dam on the Cauvery River, saying that a Karnataka‑led project would deprive Tamil Nadu of surplus water and could turn the state into a desert. Srinivasan urged the Karnataka Congress to adopt a hard‑line stance and called on the Tamil Nadu government to block the dam, stressing the potential harm to the region’s water security.
