Vancouver police officer charged with fraud and theft
Kal Dosanjh, a 25-year veteran of the Vancouver Police Department and CEO of the Surrey-based KidsPlay Foundation, is facing charges of fraud, theft, and breach of trust. The charges follow a two-and-a-half-year covert investigation which police state found that 19 victims lost a total of $3 million.
Dosanjh, who previously served as a senior detective in the financial crimes unit, is accused of being a business associate of Sarabjit Singh Gill. Gill has also been charged with fraud and theft related to housing developments dating back to January 2017. Police executed search warrants at the KidsPlay Foundation charity in Surrey, noting that some charges relate to the organization.
Through his lawyer, Joven Narwal, Dosanjh has denied all allegations. He stated, “I deny the allegations against me and I look forward to defending myself fully in court.” Dosanjh emphasized his long-standing commitment to community service and expressed confidence in the Canadian justice system.
