Vancouver police officer fraud and theft charges

Overview

Kalwinder Singh Dosanjh, a veteran of the Vancouver Police Department and founder of the Surrey-based KidsPlay Foundation, has been charged with multiple criminal offences following a two-and-a-half-year covert investigation.

The charges against Dosanjh include four counts of fraud over $5,000, four counts of theft over $5,000, and one count of breach of trust by a public officer. Investigators allege the criminal activity, which is related to housing developments, occurred between 2017 and 2025. Police report that 19 victims have identified losses totaling approximately $3 million. Some of the charges specifically relate to the KidsPlay Foundation organization.

A co-accused, Sarabjit Singh Gill, faces three counts of fraud and three counts of theft over $5,000. Police have identified Dosanjh, a former senior detective in the financial crimes unit, as a business associate of Gill.

Vancouver Police Chief Steve Rai described the situation as “deeply concerning.” Dosanjh has been suspended from the department. Through his lawyer, Joven Narwal, Dosanjh has denied all allegations, stating, “I deny the allegations against me and I look forward to defending myself fully in court.” He emphasized his long-standing commitment to community service and expressed confidence in the Canadian justice system.
