Vancouver Whitecaps nearing deal for Udinese's Rui Modesto

The Vancouver Whitecaps are reportedly nearing a deal to sign Rui Modesto from the Italian Serie A club Udinese. The 26-year-old Angolan international is expected to provide versatility to the Whitecaps' roster, as he is capable of playing as a winger, wing-back, or full-back.

Reports indicate the transfer fee may be approximately €1.8 million. Modesto, who was born in Portugal, joined Udinese in August 2024 but struggled to secure a permanent starting position, recently spending time on loan at Palermo in Serie B. While several clubs, including Raków Częstochowa, Jagiellonia Białystok, and Levski Sofia, were reportedly interested in the player, the offer from the Canadian side appears to be the most advanced.

Modesto has earned seven caps for the Angola national team since his debut in 2023. His arrival is intended to bolster the right side of the pitch for Vancouver's coaching staff.
