Vancouver Whitecaps nearing signing of midfielder Sebastián Ramírez

The Vancouver Whitecaps are nearing an agreement to sign Sebastián Ramírez, a 20-year-old defensive midfielder from Colombia’s Fortaleza FC. Ramírez, a dual citizen of the United States and Colombia born in Miami, recently toured the club’s National Soccer Development Centre at UBC to meet teammates and undergo medical assessments.

Ramírez, a former Colombia U20 international, has experience playing in Liga DIMAYOR and has been utilized as both a defensive midfielder and a centre-back. His arrival follows a busy transfer period for Whitecaps CEO and sporting director Axel Schuster, joining other recent acquisitions such as Kwasi Poku and Aleksa Cvetković.

On the pitch, the Whitecaps are preparing to face the Seattle Sounders at Lumen Field. The team is looking to break a seven-match winless streak as they enter a dense schedule of three MLS matches in seven days.
