Vangelis Doumas takes silver in 200 m at European Junior Swimming Championships

The European Junior and Youth Swimming Championships were staged in Munich in early July. Eighteen‑year‑old Greek swimmer Vangelis‑Efthymios Doumas of Olympiacos claimed the silver medal in the 200 m freestyle, finishing in 2:11.37. The gold went to Turkey’s Ndogluk Giogurtsoglu (2:09.43) and Italy’s Gabriele Garzia completed the podium.

Doumas added to his collection of medals at the meet, having already won gold in the 100 m freestyle in 2024 and a silver in that event in 2025, as well as a silver with the Greek 4 × 100 m mixed relay team in 2025. His performance marked him as the first Greek swimmer to medal at three different editions of the championships and to set a national junior record of 59.77 seconds in the 100 m freestyle.

Other Greek swimmers featured in the finals: Giannis Petrapakis placed seventh in the 200 m backstroke with a time of 2:00.50, while Nepheli Bilanakou finished 13th in the 100 m freestyle for women. The Greek team also fielded competitors in the 50 m butterfly, 800 m freestyle and relay events throughout the program.
