Vaping cessation trend sees users returning to cigarettes
An increasing number of individuals are attempting to quit vaping by returning to traditional cigarette smoking, according to reports from Bloomberg. A British study identified smoking as the second most common method used by those trying to stop using e-cigarettes, with nearly one in five vapers reporting they had tried this approach.
In New Zealand, surveys indicate that 14 percent of people who initially started vaping to quit smoking later reverted to cigarettes when they sought to stop vaping.
Magnus Lundbäck, a nicotine researcher and senior physician at Danderyds Hospital, described the trend as ‘completely crazy,’ noting that it highlights the extreme difficulty of breaking a nicotine addiction. Lundbäck emphasized that smoking remains highly harmful, contributing to seven to eight million deaths globally each year, and warned that established nicotine dependence significantly increases the risk of starting to smoke.
