Varaždin Mayor initiates additional groundwater monitoring

Varaždin Mayor Neven Bosilj has responded to Croatian Waters (Hrvatske vode) regarding the monitoring of groundwater. Bosilj stated that citizens have a right to know the quality of the water they consume and that additional measurements are being conducted to provide transparent and complete information.

The mayor's decision to activate piezometers in the former Mundus area, near the Bartolovec water pump station, follows concerns about groundwater conditions. Bosilj emphasized that ensuring citizen safety is a priority and criticized the erosion of public trust in institutions due to corruption and criminal activities.

In response, Milan Rezo, the Director of Croatian Waters for the Mura and Gornja Drava region, argued that the political responsibilities of local authorities should be separated from the professional competencies defined by law.
