Varanasi film faces potential release delay and low buzz

Speculation is growing regarding potential release delays for SS Rajamouli’s upcoming ambitious film, Varanasi. Currently scheduled for an April 7, 2027, theatrical release, industry reports suggest the production may struggle to meet this date. If a delay occurs, Prabhas’ film, Fauzi, which was previously postponed from December 2026, may be considered for the April slot.

Varanasi stars Mahesh Babu in the lead role, alongside Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran. While the production team is pursuing an international promotional strategy targeting markets including the United States, Brazil, France, and Mexico, observers have noted a lack of significant global buzz compared to Rajamouli’s previous successes like RRR.

Some industry analysts suggest the current level of anticipation is lower than typical for a Rajamouli project. This may be attributed to a lack of released marketing material and the absence of the multi-star combination seen in previous films. While domestic promotions have reportedly been sidelined in favor of international outreach, the film remains a major big-budget Telugu pan-India production.
