Varanasi prepares for ‘Wings Over Ganga’ IAF air show
Varanasi is preparing for the ‘Wings Over Ganga’ air show at Namo Ghat to commemorate the 94th anniversary of the Indian Air Force. The event is scheduled to take place on October 22, 24, and 25, with the main display occurring on the 25th. High-profile aircraft, including Rafale, Sukhoi-30 MKI, and Tejas, are expected to perform alongside the Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team and the Sarang helicopter display team.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend the main event on October 25. Local authorities, including the Varanasi Municipal Corporation, have intensified preparations, focusing on sanitation, lighting, parking, and crowd management. Officials have inspected the ghats to ensure cleanliness and the removal of encroachments. To monitor the river area, large vessels such as the Maneksha and Vivekananda will serve as surveillance centers on the Ganga.
Estimates suggest that up to 5 million spectators may attend the festivities. Security and coordination meetings involving the police and CRPF have been held to manage the massive anticipated crowds.
