The Indian Air Force (IAF) has commenced its ‘Wings Over Ganges’ aerial show at Namo Ghat in Varanasi to commemorate its 94th anniversary. The event, scheduled for October 22, 24, and 25, includes a break on October 23 due to local elections.

The display showcases India’s military capabilities with a total of 100 aircraft, consisting of 52 fighter jets, 32 helicopters, and 15 transport aircraft. Participating aircraft include the Rafale, Sukhoi-30MKI, Mirage 2000, Tejas, MiG-29, and Jaguar, alongside Chinook, Apache, and Light Combat Helicopters. Transport aircraft such as the C-17 Globemaster are also featured.

Specialized demonstrations include the Surya Kiran aerobatic team and the Sarang helicopter team. Notable formations include the ‘Kashi Formation’ and the ‘Tridev Formation’, which is intended to highlight coordination between the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh are expected to attend the proceedings. In preparation, the Varanasi Municipal Corporation has focused on sanitation, lighting, barricading, and providing drinking water and mobile toilets to manage the massive crowds expected along the Ganges riverfront.
