Vardar Gorge faces waste crisis in Skopje
The Vardar Gorge in Skopje is facing a growing waste management crisis, with illegal mini-dumps appearing along walking paths, green spaces, and frequently used roads. Residents have expressed frustration over the accumulation of trash and the smell of burning waste, which has become a persistent issue in the area.
In response, the Karposh Municipality and the City of Skopje have conducted a six-week cleaning operation, resulting in over 50 fines issued to individuals for illegal dumping. To prevent future occurrences, the City of Skopje has proposed the installation of 30 surveillance cameras at various locations to monitor public infrastructure and deter illegal disposal.
