Varenna bans fires and fireworks due to drought and heat

In Varenna, Mayor Mauro Manzoni has issued an urgent ordinance to prevent wildfires due to prolonged drought and intense heatwaves. The measure prohibits all types of fires, including cleaning fires and bonfires, as well as the use of fireworks, flying lanterns, or any other ignition devices.

To mitigate the risk of forest fires caused by high temperatures and water-stressed vegetation, authorities are also advising citizens to use gas stoves, candles, and torches with extreme caution. Local police and law enforcement will monitor compliance, and violators will face administrative sanctions.
