Varese motorway link reopens after summer roadworks

The terminal section of State Road 707, the link connecting the A8 motorway to the largo Flaiano roundabout and Varese city center, has reopened to traffic. The reopening occurred on Sunday, September 13, following a closure that lasted throughout the summer.

The road had been closed since June 25 to allow Anas to install new acoustic barriers made of sound-absorbing concrete blocks. During the construction period, traffic was only permitted in the direction of Milan, forcing drivers coming from the south to use alternative exits at Gazzada, Azzate-Buguggiate, or via viale Gasparotto and viale Europa.

The closure had caused significant traffic congestion and long queues, particularly during the end of June and again during the recent post-holiday period. The reopening, which followed an intervention by Prefect Salvatore Pasquariello to ensure it was completed before the start of the school year, is expected to alleviate traffic pressure on Varese's main access roads.
