Various regional initiatives focus on end-of-life planning and care

In Switzerland, the ‘Week of Living with Death’ is taking place across several cities and regions from October 24 to November 1. The initiative, which emerged from a festival in Bern, aims to integrate discussions about death, dying, and mourning into everyday social life. The program includes cultural offerings, workshops, and discussions held in churches, theaters, museums, and cafes. In Bern, the program specifically includes age-appropriate activities for children and adolescents to engage with themes of finitude and farewell.

In Germany, consumer protection agencies are organizing the sixth ‘Focus Week on Prevention’ from November 2 to 6, 2026. Supported by the Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection, the initiative offers 25 free online lectures. These sessions are designed to educate citizens on legal and personal safeguards for emergencies and nursing care, covering topics such as living wills, powers of attorney, and managing digital legacies.
