Varėna district hit by severe storm causing power outages

A severe storm has struck the Varėna district in Lithuania, marking the fifth major wind event in the region within a single month. While no injuries have been reported, the storm has caused significant damage to property and infrastructure.

The primary challenge involves widespread electricity disruptions. Approximately 1,400 consumers were left without power following 71 recorded supply interruptions. Three ESO crews are currently working to restore service.

Emergency services, including firefighters, have responded to 21 calls to clear fallen trees and assist technicians in reaching damaged power lines. The municipality has issued a warning for residents to avoid forests due to the danger of hanging trees and downed electrical wires. Fallen trees and branches have also obstructed roads and residential areas, complicating local traffic.
