Vasilis Kikilias visits Piraeus Port to oversee tourist return peak
Greek Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, Vasilis Kikilias, visited the Port of Piraeus to oversee the peak period of travelers returning from the islands. Accompanied by Hellenic Coast Guard Chief Vice Admiral Christos Kontorouchas, the Minister inspected measures implemented to manage increased passenger traffic.
Kikilias emphasized the vital role of tourism, islands, and maritime transport in the national economy, stating that these sectors provide essential revenue for Greek families and businesses. He urged travelers to arrive at ports on time and follow instructions to ensure safe and orderly boarding.
The Minister also commended the Hellenic Coast Guard for their professionalism throughout the summer, specifically noting their assistance in evacuating hundreds of citizens during recent wildfires. He stressed that despite the peak return period, the tourism season is still ongoing and services must remain in full operational readiness.
