Vasilis Korkidis urges national social pact to curb inflation in Greece

Vasilis Korkidis, president of the Commercial and Industrial Chamber of Piraeus, said addressing inflation and raising citizens’ income requires responsibility, dialogue and a “national social agreement” linking the state, suppliers, industry, trade and retail to keep prices stable and protect purchasing power.

He called for measures such as freezing prices for the next half‑year, lowering indirect taxes on basic goods and energy, restraining non‑wage costs for businesses, ensuring healthy market competition and possibly a two‑rate VAT system. He also urged that cost reductions be passed directly to final prices of essential items, suggesting advance reductions and voluntary summer discounts to ease household budgets.
