Vaslui reports highest firewood prices in Romania

Data from Romsilva indicates that residents in Vaslui county face the highest firewood prices in Romania this winter. For hard essences such as beech and hornbeam, prices reach 310 lei per cubic meter at the warehouse, while willow and linden are priced at 200 lei per cubic meter.

In comparison, Bacău county offers different rates. In Bacău, beech and hornbeam are priced at 377 lei per cubic meter at the roadside and 455 lei per cubic meter at the warehouse. For those picking up wood directly from the forest, the price is approximately 300 lei per cubic meter.

Experts note that while certain species are cheaper, they may not offer better value due to caloric differences. For example, a cubic meter of dried beech provides approximately 1,885 kWh of energy, whereas spruce provides about 1,330 kWh and poplar provides approximately 1,190 kWh. For a 120 square meter house with average insulation, an estimated consumption of 9 cubic meters of dried beech is required for the cold season.
