Romania heating assistance and firewood costs

In October 2026, the National Agency for Payments and Social Inspection (ANPIS) announced that heating assistance and energy supplements for the 2026–2027 season could be requested starting in October. The heating aid covers costs for thermal energy, electricity, natural gas, and solid or petroleum fuels for the period from November 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027. Eligibility is determined by monthly net average income limits and asset ownership.

Energy supplements are provided monthly, with amounts varying by energy source. For example, the supplement is 30 lei for electricity and 10 lei for natural gas or thermal energy. Romsilva estimated it would provide approximately two million cubic meters of wood for the 2026 season, with average prices around 280 lei per cubic meter.

By late October, data from Romsilva indicated regional variations in firewood costs. Residents in Vaslui county faced the highest prices in Romania, with hard essences like beech and hornbeam priced at 310 lei per cubic meter at warehouses. In Bacău county, prices for beech and hornbeam were reported higher, reaching 377 lei per cubic meter at the roadside and 455 lei per cubic meter at the warehouse.
